EVENTS, PROMOTIONS & ADMINISTRATIVE: Accountant to help manage finances

We are seeking someone who wants to make a serious difference to the outcomes that BZE can achieve through its awareness raising and research related activities.  The person would probably be an accountant but if you are not and have done this kind of work before we'd still be interested in hearing from you.  The position is an ongoing commitment to keep our financial side compliant.  The good news here is that we have very simple accounts and extremely low overheads.  Nearly all of our overheads including stationary and consumables is supplied to us by donors so we mostly manage our wages (currently for just 1.5 staff).

FUNDRAISING: Grant Seeker

In order to staff and direct our volunteer run campaign we need the support of the philanthropic sector.  As the leading climate change solutions-focused campaign in Australia we serve a niche that will appeal to grantmakers who want their funding to drive serious change in community attitudes, understanding of the science and serious climate action on the ground enacted through policy changes that we Beyond Zero Emissions can activate and facilitate.  Given our strengths in this area all we now need is you to investigate, research and seek the opportunities to co-deliver the environmental and social outcomes in our and our potential funders' visions.

Type: Volunteer
Team: Fundraising
Time: 2-6 hours per month

FUNDRAISING: Fundraising Co-ordinator and Team Members

Beyond Zero is predominately a volunteer run campaign.  However, a paid skeleton staff and the ability to temporarily hire people for completion of certain targetted projects is essential.  We also have ongoing campaign costs such as radio show production, phone bills, materials printing and visual prop costs.  As the fundraising coordinator you will look to opportunities to raise funds from our existing network and look beyond our campaign's immediate influence for fundraising.   You'll develop a team of volunteers to assist in organising and running events and coming up with new, interesting and original ideas to bring in the underlying financial base that we require as a successful campaign.   If you think you can make a difference then apply now.

Type: Volunteer
Team: Fundraising
Time: 4-6 hours per month

EVENTS, PROMOTIONS & ADMINISTRATIVE: Volunteers Coordinator

Working closely with the media and campaign coordinator your role is to bring in and understand the needs of volunteers and to match them to the needs and projects of the organisation.   You want serious action on climate change.  You want a safe zero emissions economy and so do our volunteers.   The aim is to enable new and existing volunteers to achieve their best and together succeed in shifting the debate, policy environment and economy to zero emissions.   This is a rewarding role working with passionate and dedicated people.

Type: Volunteer
Team: Events, Promotions and Administrative
Time: 2 hours per week

ONLINE CONTENT: Social Networking Coordinator and Content dissemination team members

A switched on, internet savvy person is required to get Beyond Zero Emissions' custom content and campaign vibe out on the many social networks.  At the moment we have basic coverage on some social networking sites.  We want to turn these spaces into campaign hubs on their own.   If you like web social networking or want to learn more about it and want us to achieve effective change in getting significant zero emissions action on climate change then this is for you.

Type: Volunteer
Team: Online Content
Time: 1-4 hours per week

Graphic design and illustration: Zero Carbon Australia 2020 report

A great project to utilise your design skills to create real change in the fight against climate change. This report will be promoted nationally by a large network of organisations and be presented at a major event of the Sustainable Living Festival in February 2010. Read more information here.

Information Technology: Membership management database developer with Civicrm

Beyond Zeo Emissions is growing in leaps and bounds and we are looking at revamping our membership system and services.  We would also like full contact management in order to take advantage of engagement opportunities as they arise. Running an open source online campaign we have identified civicrm as being possibly the best tool to meet our membership needs. (though we're open to alternative suggestions)   If you have civicrm or similair database skills and would like to help us solve our membership problem then we need your help asap.

Team: Information Technology

Information Technology: Drupal and PHP Developer for Beyond Zero website.

If you are a Drupal or PHP developer WE NEED YOU! We have an ongoing website development plan for a state of the art climate change solutions hub.  Many of the team members in Beyond Zero Emissions have come out of the IT, web and graphics industry, so you'll be working with a very competent and capable group.

The bulk of the work will be creating interactive campaigning tools and the addition and integration of donation collection.

If you want to make a real difference and this is where your skills lie then we are in serious need of your help.

ACTIONS TEAM: Zero Emission Councils team members

Description:  In 2006-2007 Beyond Zero Emissions launched a very successful campaign where we were able to get over a dozen councils to commit to zero carbon goals by 2020 (Some even by 2015) for their operations, and many councils adopted goals for their communities as well.
This campaign has led to millions of dollars being budgeted for climate mitigation strategies across Australia.  We would now like to relaunch and expand the campaign, in order to leverage more resources be allocated at those committed councils, and to get adjacent councills to commit to the zero emission goals.
For this you will need to work closely with climate action groups from all over Victoria and together develop a strategy and actions that will create a transition!
You will have support from experienced campaigners within Beyond Zero Emissions who will provide assistance and guidance when necessary.

ZERO CARBON PLANS: Writing and Researching - Get involved!

We all know about Al Gore's campaign to repower America with 100% zero emissions energy in 10 years. Well, this is your chance to get involved with Australia's version! Beyond Zero Emissions is currently working on producing an extension of our Coal Switch Victorian zero carbon plan, to cover all of Australia. And why should we stop at just stationary energy?

This is an enormously exciting project. It provides an opportunity for us to produce a concrete and viable blueprint for Australia to comprehensively address our emissions in all sectors, in line with what is required according to the current climate science to provide the best chance of ensuring a safe climate future.

We hope that this blueprint will provide a reference point for climate education in the wider climate movement, and ultimately a way forward for government. There is an enormous amount of work involved, and a wide range of tasks from organisation, research, liaising with other groups and individuals, and documentation. The sectors are:

Respoding with media releases, coordinating with letter writing volunteers and sending emails are just some of the techniques you could use. However, we not only want to respond to the news, we want to create the news. We interview some amazing guests on the radio show every week and we want to help get them airtime on the mainstream. We would like to communicate with the media on a regular basis and are open to ideas to develop this further. Ideas and general content will be provided by the campaign director, and the media release writer will check spelling, grammar and evolve it into a masterpiece!

Type: Volunteer
Team: Media
Time: Minimum 2 hours a week

ACTIONS: Action Team Coordinator and Team Members

Description: Work to create visible and targeted actions that make a difference!  In line with Beyond Zero Emissions' strategy to align the movement to zero emissions, communicate to government and create real change on the ground, we require dynamic individuals to work at the "coal face".  This will include visible actions in prominent locations such as at MP's offices, as well as media stunts. It involves getting the broader community involved in useful and visible action, and in particular liaison with community climate action groups. This in turn will help influence the public and politicians.
There are already actions happening that we need assistance in coordinating so there's never been a better time to get involved!
