The science is changing every week — not for the better — and is increasingly telling us we need to do more immediately. Most of the science suggests that to fully prevent climate change catastrophe we must aim for zero carbon emissions by 2030
-
John Clarke, ABC Newcastle talked to Beyond Zero Emissions, about the Clean Coal fallacy, the job implications of moving away from coal, renewable energy options and how many jobs a renewable energy way forward would offer us, utilising Solar thermal technology, Solar Electric panels, Concentrating solar with storage and wind power. All to provide us with a safe and secure electricity supply system for our future.

GREATER use of airconditioning will cause blackouts by 2030, warns the latest report commissioned by the State Government from the CSIRO.
If all Australian houses are built to zero emission standards not requiring airconditioning by 2016, this will lessen the effects of more severe weather forecast from human-forced global warming.
Companies from Britain and elsewhere are already building houses compliant with the 2016 code, some with cost increases of only 2 per cent more than similar traditionally built houses.

We talk to Peter Godfrey about why replacing fossil fuel based electricity generation with green power and saving 90% of the water in the process (equivalent to 30% of Melbourne's water supply) is the best way to solve the water crisis. Coal-fired power in fact caused the water crisis: climate change from burning fossil fuel has caused a 50 mm reduction in precipitation (rain) across the eastern seaboard and a 0.83 degrees C temperature increase.

Sian Powell refers to Beyond Zero Emissions' Danish wind power media release in her article "Not drowing, waving"
Always ready to attack the Opposition, the Prime Minister said Labor wanted to address the climate change issue with a policy framed in Europe for European conditions: "as if Australia were a small, densely populated nation with high winds somewhere east of Denmark". The PM was referring to either Latvia or Lithuania, and it's true that neither of these Baltic nations have much in common with Australia. Intriguingly, a press statement issued by Beyond Zero Emissions at the time of Howard's speech noted Denmark had recently announced it hopes to use wind power to generate 75 per cent of the nation's electricity by 2025.
-
Matthew spoke to Lloyd about putting solar panels on the equivalent of every Australian roof, how if we had the equivalent amount of wind power as Denmark (20,000MWh creating 58,000Gigawatt hours annually) we'd already be getting more than 25% of our electricity from wind power. Matthew then spoke about the emission trading taskforces' weak recommendation for a johnny come lately emission trading scheme in 2012.
